We Need to Stop Writing Fluff

Let's skip to the good part.

For some odd reason, Academy Students are wired to believe that longer work is better. On behalf of your readers and teachers—please stop. No one wants to read an eight page essay or a 1,000 word article. Even the Eagle Eye editors dislike reading these articles. We were always taught quality over quantity.

However, the Academy mindset during presentations is to be better than the group before by having a longer presentation, creating a longer website and adding FLUFF. We are tired of fluff. Writing must be interesting and that is why we have decided to lower our word limit for the next edition and write about topics that are actually relevant to our school: school events and classroom environments.

However, we believe fluff writing needs to stop in classroom assignments, too. Frankly, students should not need to write fluff and teachers should not want to read fluff. It wastes time on both ends. It is time to get to the point. If something can be explained in a 4 sentence paragraph, please do not make it 20 sentences.

We understand that it is hard, but after writing college essays with strict word limits, we know that it’s possible to get your point across with minimal words. Writers and students, try it the next time you sit down to write.
